KUSHKAL YAN & BELAKKHAL RANGE

About 16 kms. from Mala which is 28 kms. from Uttarkashi on Gangotri road, the meadow of Kush -Kalyan is situated at an elevation of 3141 mts. The trek is steep through dense forests and the meadow extends towards east for about 20 kms. up to sahastra Tal (4371 mts. ) and 30 kms. towards west to Belak Khal (2571 mts. ).

Further west, it extends upto Chaurangi- Khal. Trekking along this range is an enjoyable experience. During winter all these provide vast expanse of ski-slopes.

Gangotri-Kedarnath Trek

This trek is along the old pilgrim route from Gangotri to Kedarnath. From Gangotri one has to come down to Mala by motor. The actual trek starts from Mala, after crossing the river Bhagirathi. The trek is on level upto Sauri-Ki-Gad and from here the trek to Belak is gradual. From Belak to Buda Kedar, it is downhill through dense forests full of birds and wild life.l From Buda Kedar to Panwali, it is an uphill trek through terraced fields and picturesque villages. The enchanting , view of the Garhwal Himalayas is very refreshing and compensates the efforts of regular ascend and descend. The 'Bugyals' (alpine meadows ) on the trek are most beautiful, specially the Kush-Kalyan and the Panwali Bugyals.

Accommodation

Rest Houses and Dharamshalas are along the way. The trek should be well planned beforehand and services of a guide are advisable.
