Adi Guru Shankarachaya attalned enlightenment here in a cave and established a ‘math ‘ named Jyotimath’ which now is Joshimath. Among the many temples of Joshimath, the most famous are Narsingh and Durga Devi temple. At sri Badrinath, Vishnu, Lord Badrinathji worshipped in the Narsingh temple during the winter months when Sri Kedarnath temple remains closed.
